For its tenth birthday, as a reified object, I’ve decided to publish “Regeneration,” my first published short story.

It appeared in 2001, in The Boston Review — and subsequently won a Pushcart Prize. It’s been a long, strange decade, since then. For the first time, the Kindle version retains what I wanted the original formatting to be — with a page break after each cut. This certainly makes sense in the context of the poems that I was writing at the time; but it’s interesting to see the way my style has moved away from there, towards narrative, in the subsequent years. Where is my true voice? Who knows. Somewhere in between, I guess.

Here’s a link to “Regeneration.” Or you can click on the redesigned “Purchase Short Stories” link, just above.
