What’s the Cheapest Way To Get to San Francisco?

I don’t know. But I do know the most expensive way to do it. And that’s what I did: On my book tour.

I’d hoped for more than five people at my reading with Aimee Phan. I had a lovely time, though — I think we both did — and we wondered about the state of literary fiction in the United States. The people at Books Inc seem to be fighting the good fight — but how can they possibly keep it going?

Went to Alcatraz. Haunted by barred windows, and sunlight in small squares on the floor, and vast expanses of salt water.
